We all have been planting small-big tropical and subtropical indoor plants in our homes, but do we even know the benefits of it? Or have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I planting it?” Mostly, we do it either because we love the idea of having it, or just because we have grown seeing them around us or maybe because someone has told us to do so.
I have the whole list of many benefits covered in this blog to answer the very question.
The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.
– Alfred Austin
Much before you realise, if you have indoor plants like me, then I must tell you, we already have been benefitted from it for some or other reason. It has even mind-boggling positive effects on the people and place that it surrounds. When I first shifted to Mumbai, I just had one mini plant. After moving to my other flat, where I am currently living, I have a total of eight due to the small place, but it was enough for me to feel great and happy in my house ( okay, I am not saying it can solve your problems, but it indeed has powers to help you live better). But guess what? I have more than 50 plants at my house back in Lucknow. It’s just a beautiful experience to be around nature, and what better way can you bring your outdoor beauty inside your living and working space. It not only helps you live a healthier life but also enhances the quality of your life in ways that will continue to benefit you forever.
Apart from its growing trend in home interiors, they can be seen everywhere, from offices, hospitals, general shops, showrooms, spas, restaurants, movie theatre’s, fitness centres, hotels, etc. However, plants are the real heroes and saviours that can turn any space into a more comfortable setting.
Here are some reasons(benefits) why indoor plants cover such a vast space in our hearts and homes-
Uplifts the mood-
The best way to feel lighter and happy is to admire nature’s beauty and see them grow in time. In our hectic lives and amid the noise of urban life, indoor house plants help reduce the noise and distract our minds towards things that are more important to us.
Seeing a growing leaf or a blooming flower, you cannot help but feel happy.
Plants are like babies, which grow in time with an adequate amount of love, light and a lot of care. Gardening is an excellent form of exercise, and everyone, be it your child or your grandmother, can actively participate. It will keep you active and healthy.
The best part is, if you are a nature lover, you would know how it encourages you to go an extra mile to see your plants bloom.
Helps in healing
According to various research, being around nature helps improve the quality of human life. Many hospitals and healing centres keep the best indoor plants to provide a healthier atmosphere to recover fast. In addition, it keeps you away from various health problems.
Aloe vera, Mint, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Basil are some popular medicinal plants.
Add to the aesthetics
Plants are the most inexpensive way to add an element, vibe, beauty, and visual appeal to any space with the least effort. Right from indoor flowering plants to indoor hanging plants, they add aesthetics and life to the overall atmosphere. If you use Instagram and Pinterest, you will see a plethora of plant decoration ideas and tips. Plants look gorgeous in every way.
Be it on the tabletop, on the floor, in a corner, hanging- plants have a way to add warmth to fill the space with earthiness. Also, low light indoor plants are a good-to-go option for corporate offices or any structure which gets indirect or little sunlight.
Peaceful and Calming Effect
When I get up early morning, the first thing I do is look at my baby plants on my balcony. It is just so serene to even be around them. It makes you feel calm and relaxed due to its inevitable beauty and simplicity.
If you are fond of natural fragrances, try jasmine, lavender, rose etc. I love lavender, and honestly, everyone likes good-smelling places.
Increases Productivity and Creativity
Many studies have shown that working in plants’ presence leads to better performance and increased efficiency. I like to keep one or two small indoor plants on my table whenever I start my work; it helps me think clearly, and I genuinely do not mind working for longer hours in its presence.
I love to connect with nature every day; it helps me stay positive and to have a better outlook on life. Positivity helps to live a healthy, happy and long life. Sometimes, when you see a plant growing slow, you get worried and start questioning what if it’s not growing, what if you are taking the right care, etc., then you observe more, think less, and deliver what is required for a plant to grow healthy. It is a process, and you learn with time. Then, when you see it growing fine after a few weeks or maybe that little bud that pops out, believe it or not, it just fills your heart.
Plants teach you to be patient and helps you see the brighter side of situations. In addition, plants add an energetic vibe to the overall atmosphere. Indoor plants like jasmine, good luck bamboo, peace lily and money plant are a few good indoor plant options to ooze out positive energies.
Reduces Stress & Anxiety
The presence of indoor plants is way significant and impactful than we can imagine. Remember the last time you went on a vacation on a hillside or maybe to an island or a beach? How did it make you feel? It must have made you get rid of stress for a while. After all, that is one of the primary purposes of taking a vacation. So the idea is to create an environment so green that it automatically will reduce the amount of everyday work or personal stress. And yes, your surroundings do impact your head and heart.
Invigorate healthy lifestyle
Besides the ultimate benefits of indoor plants, we cannot forget how it absorbs various pollutants in the air and helps purify the air. So we breathe better because of the plants around us.
We all can grow our fresh vegetables, isn’t that the best thing? My mom grows many vegetables at home. They are natural, inexpensive and healthier. I use Tulsi (also known as Holy Basil) leaves from my little garden every day for my green tea, and it just adds more to my healthy lifestyle.
